Toddler remains to be dug up today

The remains of a two-year-old toddler whose body was buried in an aardvark hole on December 23, 2021, at Sandveld farms are likely to be dug up today.

According to the police, back in December 2021, the baby boy was hit and killed by his 19-year-old stepfather with an axe after he got into a misunderstanding with the toddler’s mother while they were walking to Dallas Camp ranch at Sandveld farms in the Central District. After realising that the toddler was lifeless, the couple conspired to bury the two-year-old boy in an aardvark hole and kept it secret continuing with their journey to Dallas Camp ranch. “We have been granted permission by the district commissioner to dig up the toddler’s remains.

We are currently waiting for the pathologist likely to arrive today to carry out surgical pathology tests,” the district Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer, superintendent Bannetse Baakile said. The 19-year-old couple, currently in police custody, has been charged with murder while investigations into the matter are ongoing. The police have since revealed that the teen mother’s family reported the baby missing last week after she returned home alone claiming to have left the baby boy with his stepfather. Then, (on April 5) after returning home alone, the teen mother’s parents concerned, by the soar relationship that the stepfather has with the toddler, interrogated the young mother until she disclosed what transpired and reported the matter to the police.
