Tlhagale retained as mine workers President

The Botswana Mine Workers Union (BMWU) president Jack Tlhagale’s team went for broke in the executive committee elections on Saturday, retaining the post he held for the past five years.

He led his lobby group’s winning streak by beating rival, Joseph Tsimako by 75-59.  A day earlier, things nearly got out of hand when Tsimako’s team started singing songs suggesting certain victory.

The elections were supposed to start after lunch but they ended up starting at 7pm and ended after 2.30am as members demanded to have the secretary general’s report tabled and discussed before the elections.
