Police in Serowe are investigating a case in which a 17-year-old girl of Mohatha ward in Moiyabana was attacked and raped by an unknown man on Saturday night.

The victim was allegedly walking alone to the bar that fateful night when she met the suspect on the way who subsequently attacked and subdued her before he proceeded to rape her. No.2 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said the victim had sustained stabbed injuries on her hands. “During the scuffle, the suspect stabbed her with a sharp object on her hands but luckily she sustained minor injuries. She was taken to Sekgoma Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released the same day. “Even though it was dark and the victim couldn't identify the suspect we have since launched a probe to locate and arrest him,” he said.

Meanwhile, Oketsang has pleaded with women and girls to avoid walking alone at night stating that as compared to their male counterparts, women are more vulnerable to incidents like rape. He said they continue to record cases in which women are attacked and raped even in their sleep pleading with men to respect women and "say no to rape".
