Police in Palapye are investigating a complaint by a 13-year-old girl that alleges she was recently raped by her stepfather, something that made her flee home.

Concerned with her behaviour of moving out of home, the teenage girl's relatives allegedly interrogated her about her actions and the Standard 7 pupil disclosed having been sexually assaulted by her stepfather and they reported the matter to the police. Palapye Police Station assistant commander, Assistant Superintendent Goletwa Kethamile said they received the report from the teenage girl on Saturday. "She complained of ill-treatment from her stepfather who also recently raped her, something that forced her to flee from home. We went to their home in Extension 9, Palapye but didn't find her parents (stepfather and her mother) home," he said.

"We have been visiting the place since Saturday looking for the suspect, but could not find them. We heard from the neighbours that the duo were seen leaving home that Saturday." Kethamile said they suspect that the suspect might have heard about the report and fled home stating to have since launched a probe to locate and bring him in for questioning.
