Sporting lawyer, Sebego joins political fray

Sebego will stand against Gaborone South MP, Akanyang Magama in the Botswana National Front (BNF) primary elections, which are scheduled for next month.
Sebego is better known for his involvement in football than as a political activist. He is the legal adviser of the Botswana Football Association (BFA) and chairman of the BFA Disciplinary Committee.
Instead, it has sparked a storm of accusations, denials, and unresolved questions about the influence of De Beers on the nation’s politics. Former president Mokgweetsi Masisi’s claims that the diamond giants bankrolled his removal to dodge taxes – and that the new Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) government watered down a favourable diamond deal – are explosive matters.
