Police in Mochudi have engaged an accident reconstruction specialist to investigate an incident in which a man died after allegedly being run over by a police vehicle.

The deceased was part of a group of men who were suspected of an attempted break in. Security guards called police to the scene and the man died after colliding with a police truck during the chase. Mochudi police station commander, Simon Sitale said investigations into the matter are ongoing and the results from the specialist are due next week.

“We have since involved the specialist to help determine what could have happened,” he said. The incident sparked a storm of controversy in the Kgatleng capital, as relatives of the deceased man claimed police had run over the deceased in an act of foul play.
