The incident was reported at around 3:30am in Newtown Ward, Maun, police revealed. Maun Police Station commander, Superintendent Joseph Lepodise, narrated to The Monitor that whilst asleep the girlfriend's cousin said she heard a gunshot coming from the 29-year-old woman's room and ran to their neighbours to seek help. "Whilst there, they heard another gunshot and when they arrived they found the woman lying in a pool of blood and the soldier in full uniform also lying motionless with a gun by his side and reported the matter to the police," he said. "The woman's uncle rushed her to Maun Private Hospital where she was certified dead on arrival by the doctors." Lepodise said after the police arrived at the place of incident, they rushed the soldier to Letsholathebe hospital where he was also certified dead on arrival by the doctors. He added both bodies are currently awaiting post-mortem at Letsholathebe Hospital Mortuary. "The soldier, who was based at Thebephatshwa Air Base, was on a work trip here in Maun. He was on duty that fateful night hence suspecting he might have sneaked from work with a gun and went to his girlfriend's place. "Investigations into the matter are ongoing. We don't know what the fight was all about between them because they didn't leave any message behind," Lepodise said.
