Serogola, who in the past administration enjoyed having a seat in the then-president Mokgweetsi Masisi’s court, was relegated to the stands on Saturday as he was denied a VVIP seat at the event. Having earned respect over the years, especially for instilling discipline in Serowe and other areas of Gammangwato, wasn't enough to either put Serogola in Khama's good graces or save him as the official Mothusa Kgosi from the embarrassment of being snubbed. His biggest crime, according to Bagammangwato, is that he worked in concert with Masisi's administration to bar them from using their Kgotla and calling the police on them whenever they wanted to meet at the Kgotla.
They also accused him of refusing to facilitate for the installation of Seretse Peter Khama as Motshwarelela Bogosi. He on the other hand, accused them of politicising the Kgotla and not following procedures. Drama unfolded as Khama and the invited VVIP guests took to their seats by the stage set in the middle of the pitch facing the grand stand where the VIPs sat. Serogola accompanied by two bodyguards tried to get on to the VVIP stage but was told off by the security on guard. He would stand back looking up stage as if he was hoping he would hear his name being called out. That never happened, he went to the VIP stand, but he was also denied entry there. He would walk to the least occupied stand by then, way behind the VVIP tent. As he walked there at a high pace with his bodyguards by his side, this reporter rushed to ask him what was going on. “Ga kena setilo,” he said. He went on to clarify that he was not invited. Quizzed on what transpired, chairperson of the committee that organised Khama’s welcome ceremony, Amigo Nthebolan said they could have never dreamt of inviting Serogola. “He wasn't given a seat because he was not invited. We could never invite him after the pain he has caused the tribe alongside the past administration. He doesn't belong with us and his time at the Kgotla is over. We can't expect Kgosikgolo to work with him,” he said. Just recently when President Duma Boko visited Mahalapye, Serogola sat at the top table, but a number of seats away from the President.
That was probably his last major public appearance as Mothusa Kgosi as Khama went on to announce his new deputy as Seretse Peter Khama. Wasting no time, Khama started the process of replacing Serogola at the Kgotla after the welcome ceremony. He announced the name and five people were selected to state if they supported. None opposed the name. Khama said they would be working with the Ministry of Local Government and Traditional Affairs to finalise the appointment. Serogola is expected to be deployed to serve government in a different capacity elsewhere.
