Following the Goodhope/Mmathethe Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primary election loss over the weekend, defeated parliamentary hopeful, Peggy Serame has lodged an appeal with the party.
After the announcement of the results at the Goodhope Senior Secondary School, Serame said she would be registering her complaint with the party.
Now ,In a letter seen by MmegiOnline, Serame details her complaints in a three pages letter.
The grounds of her appeal are anchored on the fact that there was voting in the same constituency on different days. She says in some wards like Mmathethe , Pitshane Molopo and Mogojogojo, voting started around 6pm and 10pm respectively on Saturday evening.
According to her complaint letter other wards would only start the process the following day. Whilst some voting took place in two separate dates, with some cells within the same ward starting on different dates.
The Minister of Finance says this is a violation of BDP party regulations for conduct of primary elections which reads in part: " “Polling station shall be open from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs. Where circumstances dictate otherwise,polling stations may be extended by not more than two hours.”
Serame further argued that there was a change of polling stations during the day of voting, she says this was done without the knowledge of her polling agents where voters had already lined up to start voting.
Serame who is also the Women’s Wing chairperson further argued that there were missing names from the voters roll. She says there was also factionalism and unfairness of returning officers .
Asked to confirm, Serame through a request sent by our reporter on Whatsap could only confirm that she has indeed filed an appeal but could not go into detail.
