Separate rings for Kapinga, Arone as Okavango splits into two

Constituencies are arenas within which political parties compete and the Okavango constituency has been nothing short of fireworks. It has undergone demographic changes since the first general election in 1966 and the recent delimitation report which indicates that the constituency will now be divided into two places a heavy emphasis on incumbent legislator Kenny Kapinga and his adversary Bagalatia Arone, writes Mmegi staffer MOMPATI TLHANKANE.

A change in demographics, migration from rural to urban areas, and shifting ideologies have determined elections outcomes in Botswana but historically the Okavango constituency, which has population size of about 34 217 and covering an area of 32,095 square kilometres has always been an opposition stronghold.
