MMADINARE: Scatec’s 100MW Mmadinare Solar PV Cluster is emerging as an important pillar of Botswana’s efforts to strengthen domestic electricity generation while creating economic opportunities for local communities. The solar project, backed by a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Botswana Power Corporation (BPC), has generated more than 243,288MWh of electricity since commissioning and employed over 1,200 people during its construction.

Under the agreement, Scatec supplies electricity generated by the plant to BPC and is responsible for operating and maintaining the facility for the duration of the 25-year PPA.

Speaking during the launch, BPC chief executive officer David Kgoboko said the agreement provides the foundation for a long-term partnership between the national power utility and the renewable energy developer.
