Red Cross Donates To Nata Destitute

NATA: Botswana Red Cross Society (BRCS) lived up to its reputation of being a humanitarian relief agency of note by distributing disaster relief aid to residents affected by floods early this year at Nata, Zhoroga and Gweta villages.

The humanitarian aid included tents, kitchen sets, mosquito nets, shelter kits and blankets. In his welcome address at Nata Kgotla, Kgosi Mokgwathi Makgetsi, pleaded with his subjects to cooperate with BRCS agents. Makgetsi reminded the residents that only those registered with the BRCS would receive donations. "We should desist from pointing fingers if we are not handed anything. We must also learn to appreciate when help comes our way," said Makgetsi.

Another speaker pointedly told the residents that they only come to the Kgotla when there is a problem. The Kachikau ward headman, Moffat Kelaotswe, said only a handful usually turn up if there is a pitso. Kelaotswe also lamented that the spirit of boipelego (self reliance) was dying within the society.
