Rathaphofu, who worked as a herder at Bootsia Ranch 1 in Sandveld Farms, was arraigned on a single count of murder of the 32-year-old deceased Xamakoae of Mogadikwane ward, Mabuo. The court revealed on June 11 at Bootsia Ranch 2 Rathaphofu murdered Xamakoae, who was also working as a herder in Bootsia Ranch 1 by stabbing him with a sharp object on the left of his chest.
Shoshong police’s acting station commander, Assistant Superintendent George Mabuta said on the evening of the murder, the deceased allegedly followed the suspect’s girlfriend Sekoloto Sutha, who was walking alone from Bootsia Ranch 1 to Bootsia Ranch 2. Xamakoae attacked and attempted to rape Sutha. “The victim allegedly screamed for help and her boyfriend, who is the suspect in this matter, heard her [screams] and came running to rescue her,” Mabuta said. “The two, the suspect and the deceased, fought and Rathaphofu ended up stabbing the deceased with a sharp object.
The matter was reported to the police and the deceased was rushed to Tobela Clinic where he was certified dead on arrival by doctors.” He added that Rathaphofu will be back in court for mention on June 27.
