Prisoner caught with dagga in prison

The police in Mahalapye are investigating a case in which a 39-year-old prisoner at the Mahalapye Prison was found in possession of a substance suspected to be dagga.

The suspect together with another man, a 27-year old of Mowana ward, Mahalapye, were arrested after they were found exchanging a plastic suspected to be containing the drug at the Mahalapye prisons kraals. Mahalapye Central Police Station commander, Superintendent Meshack Ranku told MmegiOnline that during the search by prison officers, one of the suspects was found in possession of 10 sachets suspected to be dagga. “We suspect that the sachets might be weighing 100 grams. The substances have been taken to the laboratory for further tests. Another suspect was found in possession of cash amounting to P4, 028. 05, which he also failed to account for when interrogated by prison officers. Investigations into the matter are ongoing whilst the duo is remanded in custody,” Ranku said.
