Political parties say they are more than ready to hold the by election for Ledumadumane east ward in Mogoditshane constituency. The council seat became vacant after the death of the area councillor, Otlaadisa Kgwatalala, in November 2021.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Eric Molale, issued a writ for the by election on December 28, 2021. Independent Electoral Act stipulates that by election for a council seat should be held within three months after the death or resignation of a councillor. "We are more than ready to hold by election for that ward. The name of our aspirant candidate will be released in January, 2022.

We will make sure that we do not repeat the mistake we made in previous by elections, where opposition parties competed against each other," opposition by election chairperson Phenyo Butale said in an interview on Tuesday.
