Police shoot and kill robbery suspect

PRESS STATEMENT: Police in Gaborone are investigating a case in which a middle aged man was fatally shot by the police following an alleged robbery incident at traffic lights in Broadhurst.

The incident occurred on the 1st June 2018 just after 2300hrs.

The suspect, who was accompanied by two other men allegedly robbed a 39-year-old woman who was driving her car.

The victim was waiting for the traffic lights to give way when the suspects attacked her and in the process opened the back passenger door and made away with her handbag containing items valued over P5 000 and cash amounting to P500.00.


A team of patrolling officers responded promptly to the report and pursued the robbers and in the process fatally shooting one of them whilst the other two disappeared in the dark at Extension 27 in Broadhurst.

The police are still on the look-out of the other suspects, while investigations are continuing.
