Police in Mochudi are investigating two separate rape cases that were reported on Saturday at Rasesa.

However, arrests of suspects are yet to be made in both incidents. Mochudi Police Station commander, Superintendent Joel Masilo said in the case that occurred at around 1am in Khudireng ward, a 33-year-old woman was attacked and raped while walking alone from a bar to another entertainment spot. He stated that whilst walking, an unknown man pounced on the victim, threatened her, and dragged her off to subsequently rape her. "Following the rape incident the suspect fled and we have since launched an investigation to locate and arrest him.

However, the search is not easy because the victim failed to identify him clearly since it was dark," Masilo said. In another incident that also occurred the same day in Rasesa, a 29-year-old woman was raped by a man who had accompanied her home from a bar. "The victim only knows the suspect facially, not by name. Whilst accompanying the victim home he allegedly took out a knife on the way and threatened her with it before raping her," he said. "Whilst threatening her with that knife, the suspect ended up scratching her with it on both of her thighs before raping her.

Following the rape incident the suspect fled and we have since launched investigations to locate and arrest him." Meanwhile, Masilo implored women who are usually victims of rape and usually more vulnerable as compared to their male counterparts, to avoid walking alone at night. "I am also pleading with men to respect women and know that 'No means No'. Men who rape don't respect themselves," he said.
