Police in Dibete are investigating a case in which an 18-year-old girl was recently fatally stabbed multiple times by her 30-year-old boyfriend who later committed suicide.

No.16 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Nicholas Kadiatla said they received a report of the murder on Saturday afternoon at around 2pm. He they then rushed to the crime scene at Maaloso ward, Dibete, and found the teenage girl lying in a pool of blood. "She had sustained multiple stabbings on her back. It is alleged that the boyfriend, from the same ward, met with his girlfriend who was in the company of her 19-year-old friend as they were walking from the shop, quarrelled, and he subsequently took out a knife, stabbed her, and then fled the crime scene," Kadiatla explained. He said members of the public followed his footprints to the bush in the outskirts of the village and found him hanging from a tree, suspected to have committed suicide. "Police rushed the teenage girl to Mahalapye hospital where she was certified dead on arrival by the doctors," Kadiatla said.

"They also started searching for the suspect and found him hanging from a tree, took him to the hospital where he was also certified dead on arrival by the doctors. He had used a wire to hang himself." The Officer Commanding stated that intimate partner murder cases are worrying in his policing area. He pleaded with members of the public to seek help when going through trouble in their relationships. Without available statistics to support his statement, Kadiatla said intimate partner murder cases remain a concern in his policing area, pleading with members of the public to seek help when going through trouble in their relationships.
