Police say 15 individuals have been charged for driving without licences during a weeklong operation for the Gantsi show that ended on Sunday (yesterday).

Gantsi Police Station commander, Superintendent Modiro Lekone said nine more people were also charged for driving unlicensed motor vehicles. "Since we had anticipated a large turnout and crime incidents to occur at the show we had tasked police in and around our main roads to make sure revellers are well-behaved," he said. Lekone added: "Despite these offences, we managed to control the crowd whose behaviour was excellent. Seven people were charged for failure to wear a seatbelt while two and three were charged for careless driving and drunken driving respectively.

" He further stated that 10 individuals were charged for driving public transportation without a permit while 15 drivers were also charged for failure to obey road signs. "We also charged two motorists with overloading of people on vans to the show. Despite these offences, it was a calm show because we didn't record serious crimes like murder, rape, or fatal accidents to mention but a few. We only had a theft case in which a gazebo worth P4,800 was stolen at the show," Lekone said.
