The Botswana National Front (BNF) has welcomed a new councillor from Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) Lazarus Ncube of Pitsane ward in the Goodhope/Mabule constituency.

His defection comes hardly four days after his former party BDP lost parliamentary by election for that area.

“I was accused of having contributed in Eric Molale’s defeat. The truth of matter was that Molale was not saleable amongst the BDP members. People of that constituency they did not know him and again even some democrats were calling him funny names,” Ncube said on Friday morning.

He added that he discouraged by President Ian Khama’s remarks during campaign when he told BDP members that he intends to join Botswana Defence Force (BDF) after he retires, and that he wants a Vice President he can control.

Ncube said he realized that the BDP is losing when BNF president Duma Boko and Kgosi Lotlamoreng II visited his area with helicopter and elders came out from their houses ululating and greeting their chief.

Ncube said the BDP need to admit that their candidate was weak and there is no tribe that could not vote for their chief.

Also welcomed to the party was MP elect Kgosi Lotlamoreng II.

Meanwhile, BNF president Boko said they are expecting more BDP members to join the UDC in the near future. He laughed off reports that the UDC rejected some members of Botswana Congress Party who are facing disciplinary action.

He claimed ignorance of the rejection but said that he would do the same if they were to approach him.
