Pedestrian dies in A1 mishap

A 25-year-old Zimbabwean man died on the spot after he was hit by a Toyota Hilux when trying to cross the A1 Highway near Sebele Mall on Saturday in Gaborone.

The Deputy Divisional Traffic Officer for South Central, Senior Superintendent Boiki Mojalemotho said the accident occurred when the deceased was crossing the road heading towards Kia Motors. Mojalemotho said the deceased was certified dead by doctors on arrival at the Extension 2 clinic. He was hit by a Toyota Hilux driven by a 52-year-old man, who is currently in police custody for investigations.

Mojalemotho said if found guilty, the driver is likely to be charged with causing death by dangerous driving and is likely to be arraigned today before the Broadhurst Magistrate's Court.
