Northern Botswana receives better rains

Mmipi told Mmegi that the dams in the north were over-flowing, a situation that forced them to open some of them for water to subside.“Recently we were forced to reduce the water at Ntimbale dam, which is now at 105%, with Shashe Dam being at 92%. This is because there have been good rains in the north,” she said. She said Letsibogo Dam is at 82% showing a good water situation, which will last for some time supplying the area.“Some dams like Dikgathong, Thune and Lotsane recorded better percentage of water as compared to Gaborone and Nnywane Dams whose water levels are below average,” she said.
Mmipi said that Gaborone Dam is currently at 12% after it experienced an increase of six percent. She said that this is only a trickle looking at the fact that the area has been faced with shortage of water.“We plead with members of the public, especially in the southern part of Botswana to save water because it is dry and it looks like the situation will take time to improve,” said Mmipi.
After long spells of dryness and high temperatures, it is important to celebrate the torrential rains with caution and reasonableness especially when all indications suggest that the rains are not going to stop anytime soon, especially in the northern parts of the country.We want to encourage both the young and the old to refrain from any risky behaviour during this rainy season.Batswana need to be on red alert and not take chances during the...
