New stand-alone department christened, allotted P19m

The government has set up a new standalone department christened Ethics and Integrity Directorate (EID) to which it recently allocated a P19.1 million budget.

The EID will be responsible for monitoring the interests, income, assets and liabilities of any category of persons, to detect and prevent corruption, money laundering and acquisition of property from proceeds of other offences.

The directorate will be headed by a director-general and has two major divisions, each headed by a director. The divisions are monitoring and legal enforcement, and asset declaration and management.
