Arrested for investigation

A 21-year-old young man is receiving treatment at Palapye Primary Hospital following a fight over flip flops with his 33-year-old uncle at Tebele ward, Topisi on Saturday.

No.2 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said during the fight, the uncle grabbed a log. He hit his nephew on the head with it, landing the nephew in hospital.

"The victim had sustained serious injuries but he is currently hospitalised in a stable condition whilst his uncle is in police custody for investigations. This kind of case remains a concern as people continue to fight and hurt each other and at times lead to deaths over petty issues that could have been resolved verbally. I am pleading with members of the public to learn to solve issues without using violence," he said.

Oketsang said society seems angry because people no longer have the patience to resolve disputes without violence. He added that as the police, they try by all means to sensitise the public through community outreach and kgotla meetings about these issues but their efforts continue to fall on deaf ears.
