Three Batswana currently being held in a Mafikeng prison in South Africa - Edward Mzwinila, Michael Mzwinila and Isaac Nyoni - will get a surprise present when they appear before the Mafikeng Magistrates Court next week.

It is expected that the three will apply for bail during their appearance. However, the Botswana Police, through the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is also planning to make an application for their extradition to Botswana. "We will make an application to the South African authorities to hand them over to us," said senior superintendent Dipheko Motube of the Police public relations unit. The three men are suspects in a case in which they allegedly broke into Home Corp Furniture in Gaborone on the night of December 15, 2009. It is said that the three were in the company of Elizabeth Surtee and Happy Charumbwana when they broke into the shop escaping with goods worth over P230,000.

The three men were caught in South Africa in possession of play stations (TV games) worth P44,000 whilst other goods were recovered in Botswana. The Extension Two Magistrates Court last week granted bail to Surtee but locked Charumbwana behind bars on grounds that he might interfere with police investigations.
