For Modise, the win is more than a political achievement; it is a call to action from residents who believe in his vision, track record, and promise to work hand in hand with the community to tackle long-standing challenges. The newly elected MP says his victory reflects the trust residents have placed not only in him, but in the UDC and its leader, President Duma Boko. In an interview on Sunday night, after it became clear that he had secured more than half the total votes cast, Modise described the moment as humbling and deeply meaningful.
He emphasised that the responsibility entrusted to him comes with the expectation that he will deliver results and work closely with the community on key issues affecting the constituency. “I do not take my win lightly,” he said. “This is a new role, and it shows that residents of this constituency trust and believe in me, together with my party. Together with them, as I will be consulting them, I believe we can resolve the problems facing this area. I am humbled.” Modise believes that what worked most in his favour was the long-standing connection he has established with the people of Kgalagadi South. As a former teacher, he built strong relationships with families, youth, and elders, gaining the community’s respect long before politics entered the picture. Over the years, he participated in various development projects, collaborating particularly with the elderly on community initiatives—efforts he never imagined would one day anchor a political campaign. He explained that these genuine interactions and acts of service helped residents see him as someone who understands their everyday struggles and aspirations. To him, the victory represents the culmination of years spent serving rather than campaigning. Looking ahead, Modise highlighted key development priorities he believes can transform Kgalagadi South. Having followed the recent parliamentary debate on National Development Plan 12 (NDP12), he is optimistic that infrastructure developments, especially road projects, will bring meaningful change.
