“Today, we are gathered here as it has been stated to give away the 100, 000th plot and I have to say this really makes me even more happy that we are here to show the results of the targets I had set. For Mzwinila, I am happy that he carried out the instruction I had set and achieved it,” Masisi said.
Elated over the achieved set target (100 00 plots), Masisi encouraged other ministries in Botswana to take notes from Mzwinila and accomplish the set targets by the State. Land Boards, which have helped in achieving this target as as well Mzwinila, were hailed with accolades." I wish that other ministries could do more for their services offered or at least achieve half of what Mzwinila’s ministry has achieved,” Masisi praised the Ministry of Lands.
The President was of the view that if all the ministries could follow this trajectory, Botswana will finally achieve transformation, which is what the country has set its eyes on regarding Vision 2036. According to Masisi, this was a huge task as it is something that has never been done before in Botswana, and for Mzwinila to pull it off was remarkable hence why he has taken the moment to give him his flowers.
“This is something that has never been done before in this country and I have to applaud everyone who was involved in this mission. Because this target had a lot of challenges which include no improved resources but still with that, they got the job done,” he said.
Furthermore, Masisi pointed out that the MLWA has done an enormous work in the plot allocations as they have managed to notch down the waiting list from 2019 to 2024 by 60%. “In 2019, the waiting list across the country was standing at 509, 146 but I am happy to state that we have done very well because as of now when we give away these 100, 000 plots, we are left only with 206, 736 people on the waiting list,” Masisi revealed.
He took the chance and opportunity to warn people against transferring their land as he pointed that the land with time appreciates, making it a great asset to have, not cars that depreciate with time. Meanwhile, Mzwinila stated that despite achieving the 100 00o target, it was not an easy task for them but remains thrilled to conquer the target set by the President.
“The President gave us this target to achieve 100 000 plots, but we encountered challenges like low budget, less labour and people transferring their land which took most of our time. But, I am happy that with the help of the President we managed to achieve this,” Mzwinila said.
It has only been a month since the newly elected government, the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), took power, and there are already a lot of changes. Across different ministries, ministers are hard at work. Following heavy rainfall and storms that hit Francistown recently, the Minister of State Presidency, Moeti Mohwasa, made a commitment that government will assist those affected by the heavy rains. Mohwasa, when addressing the media in...
