FRANCISTOWN: Letlhakane police are investigating a gruesome murder that took place last Thursday. Letlhakane police station commander, superintendent Michael Maphephu confirmed to The Monitor that they have arrested a 27-year-old Zimbabwean man in connection with the murder of a Motswana man aged 47 years.

He said on the morning of the incident, the suspect followed his ex-girlfriend to her place in Letlhakane and found her with her new love interest. He added that the suspect then got angry and a fight ensued between the Zimbabwean man and the deceased. Maphephu indicated that after attacking each other, the 27-year-old man used a sharp instrument to stab the deceased on the left side of the chest. He added that the 47-year-old man was later taken to Letlhakane Primary Hospital where doctors certified him dead upon arrival.

Maphephu said the suspect handed himself over to the police and will appear at the Letlhakane Magistrates Court today (Monday). The Thursday incident follows another recent (September 9, 2021) shocking but similar tragedy in which a Moletemane Primary School teacher unleashed fury on his ex-girlfriend's new flame, a farmer, leaving him dead and his ex-girlfriend and colleague fighting for her life after the attack. The incidents are barely a week apart.
