Thirty-five year old Kabo Garethusane has landed himself in serious trouble after being charged with a single count of murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Goabaone Mothofela.
The deceased allegedly died at the hands of her accused boyfriend at Old Naledi in Gaborone last Sunday. Mothofela was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital where she was rushed to for medical attention. Garethusane was charged with a single count of murder of his partner when he appearing before Extension II Magistrate’s Court this week. Following arraignment, the State moved an application for the accused to be further remanded in custody after prosecutors told the court that the matter was relatively new and investigations were still ongoing. However, Garethusane did not take that kindly telling the court that he couldn’t afford to spend any additional minute in custody.
The accused then pleaded to wait for trial outside jail stating that there are people that depended on him for survival and therefore he needed to be outside to be with them. "I only have one request which is to wait for trial outside. This is because I have a minor who has no one now to look after. So with that may I be released," he pleaded before the magistrate. In response, Presiding Chief Magistrate, Kamogelo Mmesi reminded the accused that he needed to remember that he was facing a murder charge and couldn’t be released so early. But the accused remained persistent that he really needs to make bail, saying: "I am really pleading with this court to be granted bail." However, Magistrate Mmesi did not budge and further remanded the accused in custody. "This is a new murder case, so the accused is further remanded in custody and will appear for a mention on July 3," she ordered. The case continues.
