Member of Parliament (MP) for Nata/ Gweta Polson Majaga’s lawyer Mishingo Jeremia has revealed that it remains unclear why the legislator has been arrested.
In a brief interview with Mmegi Online, Jeremia confirmed that it is indeed true that Majaga has been arrested. But he clarified that social media reports linking the legislator to threat to kill charges is nothing but assumptions. “Majaga has been arrested by the police officers from Gaborone. I have seen on social media that Majaga has been arrested for threat to kill charges, but I want to say that is nothing but speculation,” Jeremia said.
Majaga’s representative further stated that his client has been cooperating with the law enforcement from the onset.
“What I understand is that the police officers set an appointment with Majaga yesterday and they had a meeting today at Nata this morning where they ended up arresting him after they told him a charge was laid against him in Gaborone,” he revealed.
“I do not know where the case was even opened. The last communication I got was at lunchtime and they indicated that they were leaving Nata to Gaborone,” Jeremia further noted. Meanwhile Broadhurst Police Station Commander Obusitswe Lokae revealed that he is not even aware that a case of threat to kill against Majaga has been reported at his station.
“We see on social media that Majaga has been arrested and what I know is we do not have that case in our station. Maybe the case might be with the district offices or the regional offices because he is a prominent figure,” Lokae said.
