A 26-year-old woman from Boseja ward in Mahalapye is in police custody after she allegedly stabbed her boyfriend’s friend with a sharp object Saturday night.

Mahalapye Central Police Station acting commander, Superintendent Moatlhodi Onalenna, said the incident occurred after the woman had a heated argument with her partner at her home.

On the fateful night, the boyfriend, accompanied by two friends had gone to the woman’s house after returning from a night out.

Onalenna explained that the misunderstanding between the two partners escalated into a near-physical altercation, prompting the victim to intervene and help calm tensions.

Following the friend's intervention, the police spokesperson said the boyfriend and his two friends decided to leave the suspect's yard and head to a nearby party, leaving the woman behind.

However, as they made their way to the party, Onalenna added the girlfriend allegedly followed them and attacked the victim from behind, stabbing him in the back with a knife.

"The stab wound wasn't deep. The victim was rushed to Mahalapye Hospital where he was admitted for a day and discharged the following day. That night we managed to arrest the suspect and charged her with unlawful wounding," he said.

"She is expected to appear before the Mahalapye Magistrates' Court sometime this week for arraignment whilst investigations into the matter are ongoing."
