Retired nurse Rebecca Mogwe could not contain her excitement when she received an award for long service and good conduct last week.

After entering the profession in the 1950s, she has waited long enough to get the honour. The award is given to a nurse who has shown professional commitment and provided dedicated service for at least 25 years.

Born in 1931, Mogwe trained as a nurse from 1953 to 1958. "I have seen the transition of Botswana from a protectorate," said the grandmother who is originally from South Africa. The mother of four and eight grandchildren is married in Botswana.
