Kitso Speaks whose birth names are Kitso Motlhabane has written a book titled ‘Duma Gideon Boko: Pioneering The African Renaissance.’
The book delves into the life and vision of President Boko, highlighting his potential to lead a transformative change in Botswana and across Africa. It was published in Gaborone on November 8, 2024. The book has 188 pages and is divided into seven chapters.
This proud self-published author said the biography captures not only the life of President Boko but also the spirit of a nation at a pivotal moment in its history.
“By self-publishing, I aimed to ensure that this story reaches readers directly, reflecting my commitment to documenting the transformative potential of his leadership for Botswana and beyond. The inspiration to write this biography came from the historic nature of Boko's electoral triumph, which marks a significant shift in Botswana's political landscape. His victory not only ended a 58-year rule by the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) but also symbolises hope for many ordinary citizens who aspire to see transformative leadership in action,” he said.
He explained that Boko's journey to the presidency was particularly inspiring because he represents a new generation of African leaders who have risen through merit rather than political connections. Motlhabane added that the President’s background as an ordinary Motswana, without ties to old money or historical advantages, resonates deeply with many people across the continent. He added that that aspect of his story highlights the potential for change and renewal in African politics, making it a compelling narrative that I felt compelled to share.
Motlhabane also stated that he observed President Boko’s rise and the excitement surrounding his leadership, saying he realised that documenting that moment was essential not just for Botswana but for the broader African context. He said he wanted to capture the essence of the President’s vision and the aspirations of those who support him, making it clear that that was not just about one man but about the collective hope for a brighter future
“This architecture facilitates the deep investigation of President Boko's life and career as a leader and the great change it is being proposed to bring to the Republic of Botswana and Africa. Each of the chapters digs deeper into specific facets of his narrative. It offers the audience an approach to fully comprehend his thought and the epochal meaning of his term in office. This book is primarily a biography, but it also incorporates elements of political commentary and social analysis. The genre allows me to delve into the life of President Boko while exploring the broader implications of his leadership for Botswana and Africa as a whole,” he explained.
Furthermore, he explained that he was also motivated to write the book by the urgency to document a historic moment in his nation's history. He added that as he wrote the book, he was driven by a deep sense of responsibility to tell a story that resonates with people from all walks of life. He added that he wanted to highlight how Boko's leadership embodies the aspirations of many who believe in a brighter future for our country.
He said passion fueled his late nights of research and writing, allowing him to immerse himself fully in his narrative. Ultimately, he said his goal was to create a work that not only informs but also inspires readers, encouraging them to engage with their own potential for leadership and change in their communities. He further explained that the feedback he received from those who have read the book has been overwhelmingly positive and deeply moving. He said many individuals expressed how the book resonates with their own hopes and aspirations for Botswana's future.
“Writing "Duma Gideon Boko: Pioneering The African Renaissance" was a rewarding experience, but it also came with its share of challenges. I encountered challenges such during the writing process such as time constraints given the urgency of documenting President Boko's rise to power. I also had to balance my writing with other commitments, including work and volunteer activities. This meant that I often had to sacrifice sleep and personal time to meet my deadlines. The pressure to produce a comprehensive and impactful narrative in a short time frame was daunting,” he said.
Furthermore, he said despite those challenges, the journey of writing this biography has been profoundly fulfilling. He explained that each obstacle provided an opportunity for growth. He said he emerged from the experience with a deeper understanding of not only Boko's story but also the power of storytelling itself in shaping narratives that inspire change.
Kitso Speaks' first book was titled "M.E.K Masisi: Creed of the Phoenix," and it explored the complexities of leadership in Botswana's political landscape. He said the book is currently with the former president. He said writing that initial book was a significant milestone for him, as it laid the foundation for his understanding of governance and the transformative power of effective leadership.
