Khama to decide on Molale again

After the weekend humiliation at the hands of his kgosi, Minister of Presidential Affairs and Public Administration Eric Molale is likely to take up his position as a specially elected member of parliament again.

Molale resigned from Parliament on July 23 but President Ian Khama immediately re-appointed him to cabinet, using his authority under Section 42 of the Constitution. Molale broke a record as the first Motswana to resign from Parliament and be appointed cabinet minister within three hours.

However, the way it stands, Molale will be subjected to the same procedure through which he joined the National Assembly after the 2014 general elections, if he is appointed specially elected MP. Prior to the elections, Molale was Permanent Secretary to the President, a position he left just a few days after the October elections. Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Kokorwe would not be drawn into discussing the return of Molale, referring our enquiries to government spokesperson Dr Jeff Ramsay.
