Khama Snubs BDP Manifesto Launch

Speculation has grown that former president Ian Khama could be on his way out of the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

The talk about Khama leaving the party heightened after he did not attend the BDP’s manifesto launch despite being invited. BDP Communications Committee chairperson, Kagelelo Kentse said they had invited Khama to the launch.

“We were surprised that he did not show up. We invited him last Monday and he responded positively. We had even arranged for his arrival, but he never showed up. Up to now he has not communicated with us,” Kentse said. Khama did not attend the Kang Extraordinary Congress where he was expected to take part in voting for Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi as the party president last month.
