Jwaneng police officer fatally shot his wife and himself on Saturday evening at his residence.

The police officer holding the rank of assistant superintendent allegedly shot his wife to death in a car outside the house before turning the gun on himself in a murder-suicide incident using a service pistol. The Botswana Police Service’s deputy public relations officer, senior superintendent Near Bagali confirmed the murder-suicide incident to The Monitor in an interview.

He said the police officer of the rank of assistant superintendent at Jwaneng police station is 51 years old whilst his wife is 47. He stated that investigations on the matter are ongoing.“The incident occurred between 5 and 6 in the evening. We do not know what caused the misunderstanding between the couple that led to the incident. They were rushed to Jwaneng Mine Hospital where they were certified dead on arrival by the doctors,” said Bagali.
