Acting High Court judge and former regional magistrate, Terrence Rannowane has recused himself from the criminal case involving Daisy Loo, its managing director Moemedi Dijeng and former and current Gaborone City Council (GCC) employees.

The P21 million criminal case has been on the register's roll for over two years but only two state witnesses out of the expected 50 have testified so far. Rannowane's appointment has left the trial proceedings in limbo after the defence team, led by lawyer Duma Boko, protested that he could not hear the case nor refer it to the High Court. Yesterday Rannowane ruled that the case should be given a different judicial officer as he is now a judge and therefore not competent to handle the matter.

Rannowane was appointed acting judge last month. He has indicated that it was in the interest of justice that he withdraws from the case because to press ahead with the trial could be a big risk.
