Herder dies in accidental gunshot at Madale cattle post

A tragic incident unfolded over the weekend at Madale cattle post on the outskirts of Rathola village when a herder accidentally shot himself whilst playing with a firearm.

The deceased, a man from Majwaneng, is reported to have been visiting fellow herders in the area when the accident occurred.

According to police, the man was handling the gun recklessly, striking it against a stone, when it discharged and fatally wounded him on the chin. Confirming the incident, Martin’s Drift Police Station acting commander, Assistant Superintendent Uyapo Koketso, said the man was immediately rushed to the nearest clinic but was certified dead upon arrival by the doctors.
