Four goats belonging to government have been stolen at a National Agricultural Research and Development Institute (NARDI) farm that is situated four kilometres east of Serule.

According to police, workers at the facility established four of the small stock were missing on Saturday evening after others returned from grazing. The employees then tried to search for them until they discovered that the fence was destroyed at the back and reported the matter to the police. Serule Police Station assistant commander, Assistant Superintendent Mbobo Serokolo said investigations into the matter were ongoing to locate and arrest the suspect(s). "Last year, two of the goats at NARDI were stolen. This is the second case and so far six have been stolen," he said.

"We suspect that it was an inside job or the criminals were people familiar with the area because it is not easy to access the farm looking at the state of the road to the farm, the distance, and the side at which the goats go for graze." Serokolo added they discovered that thieves had a getaway car which they used to load the goats into because there were tyre marks not far from the damaged fence. He explained the tyre marks were also discovered along with the goat hoof prints and shoe prints traced from the damaged fence. "I am pleading with members of the public to help us with any information that could help us locate the suspects, especially if they can see people selling goats or goat meat," he said.
