Police in Oliphants Drift are investigating a case in which a 28-year-old man of Mookane village was killed following a misunderstanding that occurred while drinking beer at a local shebeen recently.

Police in Oliphants Drift are investigating a case in which a 28-year-old man of Mookane village was killed following a misunderstanding that occurred while drinking beer at a local shebeen recently. Oliphants Drift Police Station commander, Superintendent Pontsho Kgotlafela told The Monitor that the incident occurred on Thursday at 2pm. "It is alleged whilst drinking alcohol the duo had a misunderstanding that led to a fight and the 24-year-old suspect went to their yard in the neighbourhood, grabbed a knife, went back to the shebeen, stabbed the deceased, and fled the crime scene," she explained. "The matter was reported to the police and the deceased was rushed to a local clinic where he was referred to Deborah Retief Memorial Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival by the doctors." Kgotlafela said on the same day, they managed to arrest the suspect, who hails from Oliphants Drift. She said the suspect was arraigned for murder before the Mochudi Magistrate's Court on Friday and will appear again for mention on November 14.
