A 72-year-old man was attacked and killed by an elephant near his farm between Boro 1 and Boro 2 settlements on the outskirts of Maun on Saturday night. Maun Police Station commander, Superintendent Joseph Lepodise, said they received the report of the matter at around 8:57pm.

The report was made by a 38-year-old woman who had received a phone call from Boro 2 Lands being notified about the tragedy. Maun police team has since launched a probe to establish what transpired.

"It is alleged that the old man had left home around 5pm, heading to the farm, and in the process he was also going to look for his donkeys. Later in the evening, those who were home heard an elephant screaming from the side of the farm," Lepodise explained.
