Thirty-five--old driver of a Toyota Corolla who fled the scene of the accident after striking a pedestrian near Wamzito Night Club in Palapye has been arrested.

The suspect was arrested at a nightclub he was heading to when the accident occurred. Palapye Police Station traffic officer, Assistant Superintendent Ntshesane Rammapudi, said the accident happened on Sunday morning at around 4:23am. He explained that the suspect had fled the scene of the accident, but luckily some members of the public witnessed the incident and helped the police to locate the driver. "The deceased, who is likely to be around 25 years old, was rushed to Palapye Hospital where he was certified dead on arrival by the doctors.

The suspect is currently in police custody for investigations and he is likely to appear in Palapye Magistrates Court anytime this week, facing a single count of causing death through careless driving," he said. Rammapudi implored motorists to be cautious, warning them to drive at a minimum speed, especially when around entertainment areas as it is likely intoxicated pedestrians would be walking in and around the entertainment spots.
