Debswana JUP business partners support Mahotshwane

In a bid to align with the sentiment of the President of Botswana, Advocate Gideon Duma Boko, that the country’s diamonds must benefit even the lowest in society’s strata, Debswana Jwaneng Underground Project (JUP), together with business partners, has heeded the call.

TKM Engineering, Excavator Hire, Redpath Mining, Ontrock Engineering, Kgaga Belting and Royal Engineering on 18th July 2025, took a great stride and donated amenities valued at over BWP 100,000.00 to the community of Mahotshwane, which is in the area of influence for Jwaneng Mine.

The companies are all partners of Debswana in the Jwaneng Underground Project.

The gesture comprised of the refurbishment of an existing kgotla structures (leobo) wholly sponsored by TKM Engineering valued at over P50, 000.00. Paraphernalia necessary for the improvement of learning at Mahotshwane Primary School from the other business partners was as follows; Redpath Mining donated books worth P87,234.00.00, while Ontrock Engineering and Royal Engineering donated books worth P6,705.14 and P6,889.01 respectively. Kgaga Belting donated printing accessories worth over P10,000.00 to which Team Engineers added over P2,000.00 in stationery.


The handover was made by Mr Obert Chombo, Senior Project Manager, in the company of the Head of Jwaneng Underground Project Exploration Access Development, Mr Benjamin Swartz and representatives from the business partners. Both Messrs Chombo and Swartz emphasised the importance of books in learning, shaping the future and making life brilliant. Mr Chombo further emphasised the importance of the kgotla as the traditional meeting place for the community.

Some of the business partners, Kgaga Belting, Excavator Hire and Redpath Mining have used the kgotla for recruitment of unskilled and semi-skilled labour. The move signifies and cements the need to have a sound structure to enhance togetherness and social cohesion.

The Regional Education Director, Mr Tuelo Monty Rakgabo and Kgosi Mohurutshi Maipolelo, each received the gift appropriate for their offices. Mabutsane District Councillor Chair, Hon Tuelo Zulu closed the ceremony with words of gratitude and appeal to continue the benevolence for the lifespan of the mining operations.
