Debswana’s Old General Manager’s Charity Walk campaign officially kicked off last Saturday in Gaborone with a vibrant activation event that brought together hundreds of residents in support of the theme 'Walk For Water'.
The event, held last weekend, served as a warm-up and awareness campaign ahead of the main charity walk scheduled for August in diamond town Orapa. Participants took part in the 5km, 10km, and 21km races.
The theme for this year’s walk focuses on the urgent issue of water access in remote communities, a cause that Debswana says aligns with its long-standing commitment to sustainable development and social investment in Botswana.
Marketing Lead for the walk, Lebogang Tebogo said at the weekend's activation that the walk was more than just a fitness initiative.
“We’re not just walking or running today for fitness—we’re moving with purpose. Each step draws attention to the urgent need for reliable water supply in Botswana’s remote regions,” he said during the activation.
The event featured a mix of aerobics, live music, educational stalls, and community engagement, transforming a regular Saturday morning into a purposeful movement. Organisers said the turnout and energy were an encouraging sign of public support for the initiative’s broader goal.
