Cops kill elephant whilst pursuing criminals

FRANCISTOWN: Cops in Kazungula are investigating an incident in which officers on duty killed an elephant after it threatened them whilst in pursuit of criminals to make arrests.

According to Kazungula Police Station commander, Phetogo Phillimon on Thursday morning, three police officers were threatened by a herd of elephants while they were on duty tracking culprits near Letsoma village.

He highlighted that the elephants were travelling with their calves and some elephants which were on the other side of the trail attacked the officers. He said that the officers then shot one of the elephants killing it with their rifles.
