The sole survivor of a car-train crash that occurred at the railway crossing line behind the North Gate Mall along the Kasane Road is fighting for her life at Sidilega Private Hospital following Saturday's accident that claimed two lives.

Deputy Divisional Traffic Officer for South Central, Senior Superintendent Boiki Mojalemotho, who is investigating the matter, said they are yet to establish the sole survivor’ age as she currently cannot speak. Mojalemotho said two people, a 39-year-old woman who was the driver of a Toyota Belta and a 57-year-old male passenger, lost their lives after their car collided with a locomotive train in an accident that occurred at around 1:45pm. “The duo was certified dead by doctors on arrival at the Extension 2 clinic. The sole survivor sustained fractured ribs and serious head injuries and is currently fighting for her life at Sidilega Private Hospital. The trio was trying to cross the railway line towards Ledumang when the accident occurred,” he said.

Mojalemotho cautioned drivers to take full responsibility when crossing the railway line, adhere to road signs, and always give the train preference.
