The Botswana Patriotic Front’s (BPF) National Executive Committee (NEC) has sparked mixed reactions within the party after granting its members in the Kgalagadi South constituency permission to contest the upcoming parliamentary by-election.

The decision has stirred both optimism and controversy, revealing the internal divisions and strategic uncertainties facing the organisation. The Kgalagadi South constituency was won by the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) during the 2024 General Election.

However, the parliamentary seat fell vacant following the passing on of the ruling party’s Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Micus Chimbombi, due to health complications. Consequently, the by-election for the area is scheduled to take place on November 15, drawing renewed political interest and competition amongst the country’s major parties.
