A 33-year-old man who resided at Bonwanotshi cattle posts in the outskirts of Kalamare was recently fatally hacked with an axe following a dispute over a girlfriend "dating both men".

Narrating what transpired, Mahalapye Police Station commander, Superintendent Omphile Malemenyane said the suspect, a 24-year-old man who also resides in Bonwanotshi cattle posts, allegedly saw the deceased walking with the woman to his place and followed them. “On arrival at the deceased’s place, the suspect allegedly knocked and when he opened the door he hacked him with an axe on the head, grabbed the woman, and fled the crime scene. “The following morning, the girlfriend went to the deceased’s place and found him still lying in a pool of blood by the door and reported the matter to the police,” he said.

Malemenyane said the police rushed to the crime scene and took the deceased to Mahalapye Hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival. He added that the deceased had sustained a gaping wound on his head and hand. “We have since arrested the suspect, charged him with murder and he is currently in police custody for investigations,” he said.
