BMD youth want 50 percent women representation


The Botswana Movement for Democracy Youth League (BMDYL) has forwarded a motion to its central committee that seeks the party to have 50 percent representation of women in all their party committees.

So far the BMD constitution advocates for 30 percent, but the party is not abiding by its commitment.

Yesterday, the BMDYL president Phenyo Segokgo told the media that their call is motivated by the fact that they value the contribution of women in the party. “We need women’s voice in all committees and even in issues of policy making. Even if the party does not agree to 50% representation, but it should agree on the percentage that would be binding,” Segokgo said.  He said their party had gone through turbulent times and through periods of successes in its journey.  “We have observed that we need to strengthen our mobilisation drive to have the formative allure.
