BMD fail to meet UDC deadline

The Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) is yet to comply with Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) requirements ahead of their February 2018 congress. The party, which just had an elective congress re-run, as instructed by the Umbrella, failed to meet the November 30 deadline to submit membership list.

The UDC vice president, Dumelang Saleshando had earlier written to all its affiliates requesting them to bring lists of their members in order to accredit delegates to the coalition congress early in the year.

Again all affiliated secretary generals were scheduled to meet on that day which they did. BMD spokesperson, Wilfred Rasina confirmed that they did not comply because they wanted to finish with the issue of elective congress first. “There was nothing that the interim committee could do except to finish with the issue of congress first. UDC was aware of this position because we had to take mandate from the congress. Our situation has been different from any other parties and therefore we had to sort ourselves out first,” Rasina said.
